For 2017, the Weber Genesis comes in two, three, four, and six burner configurations. This one, the deluxe version of their three burner model, is a fully loaded, high-end grill.

Guide Review - Weber Genesis II LX S-340 Gas Grill

In the past, if you wanted a Weber Genesis Gas Grill, your choices included colors, whether or not to have a side burner, and a few minor cosmetic elements, like stainless steel hood and doors. Now, this ever popular grill can be had in a number of sizes, ranging from a small two-burner unit to the monster six-burner.

The LX series of Genesis grills takes the line to a new high-end position. Where the standard Genesis II is made in China, the LX series is made in the United States in the same factor that once made all of the Genesis and Summit series gas grills.

But it isn't just the variety in the number of burners (there are also two, four and six burner versions of this model). The entire cooking system has been redesigned, most notably, the burners with what they call the GS4 cooking system. In the past, the burners on a Weber gas grill were the typical stainless steel tubular burners. The new burners are rectangular, top ported and tapered. What this means is that the fire shots directly up into the "flavorizer" bars and are tapered to provide an even heat front to back. Simply put, the pressure inside the burner is the same all they way through, so the flames have the exact same pressure through every port. This gives the Genesis, one of the most even heats of any gas grill on the market.

The other innovation with the model is the new ignition system. Turn the control knobs and the igniters continuously keep the burners lit. These igniters sit under a protective cuff that Weber is confident will allow them to last for ten years.

They even warranty the ignition system for that long, giving this grill the longest and most complete warranty in the industry. Weber's legendary support remains unchanged and with this warranty, the rest of the business is going to have to catch up on reliability.

The Genesis II LX S-340 is a full feature grill. It has three main burners, a good quality side burner and a long list of bells and whistles. These include a tank scale, illuminated control panel and complete compatibility with Weber's iGrill 3 technology. With this added feature, you can monitor the grills cooking temperature as well as multiple food items. It will also monitor fuel levels and remotely control the lights in the control panel. For a list price of $1,499USD (typically selling for $1,299USD) this is a large, but simple gas grill.

The price of this grill is relatively high, but the construction quality is excellent and it more than delivers on all of its promises.

The one odd, even humorous feature of this gas grill is that the burners have a "High Plus" setting, meaning that you can literally turn the heat to 11. "Spinal Tap" fans will get the argument that maybe high should have just been hotter and that there isn't a point in a "High Plus" setting.

Weber Spirit vs Genesis: The Ultimate Comparison

So, you’re looking for a top quality gas grill and have a hard time deciding between the Weber Spirit and the Weber Genesis ranges. It’s not an easy choice, but by isolating a few key requirements you can make the correct decision.

In this article you will find brief highlights of both ranges, key differences and a comparison table to help you find the right model for you.

    Weber Spirit versus Genesis: Quality

Both these ranges offer outstanding build quality. However, the Spirit features a lower grade of stainless steel than the Genesis. They’re still high quality, well-constructed grills, but rest assured that the extra money you pay on the Genesis grills are not just for more space and heat. They’re a few steps up from the Spirit in construction quality.

Apart from the Genesis S-models (more info below) all these products feature stainless steel burners, porcelain-enamel cast iron grates and enclosed gas storage with gas gauges and thermometers.

    The Genesis and Spirit Models

We have a handy comparison table a little lower down that will help you compare exact features at a glance. For now, just a quick overview of the different models on offer.

    Genesis: E-310 (full review), E-330, S-310, S-330

Both ranges offer basic models and more featured models.

In the Spirit range, the basic model is the E-210 (2 burners, 450 sq. inch), which offers the bare essentials you need to get grilling, including a handy extra in the LP fuel gauge. The E-220 model adds a 12,000 BTU side burner to the E-210 setup.

Next, you step up to the Spirit E-310. This is a 3-burner 529 sq. inch model that offers slightly more cooking space than the E-210. Apart from that and the extra burner, they’re virtually identical. The E-320 upgrades the E-310 with a 12,000 BTU side burner.

The Genesis range starts with the E-310, a 637 square inch cooking surface powered by 3 burners and all the essential features you need, without added extras. For extras, you can upgrade to the Genesis E-330 (reviewed here), which adds both a side burner and a sear station to the E-310.

    The S-Models

Available in both the Spirit and Genesis ranges are the S-models: the Spirit S-210 and the Genesis S-310 and S-330. They are exactly the same as their E-model counterparts, apart from the following:

    – stainless steel cooking grates and flavorizer bars instead of porcelain-enamel coated cast iron (Genesis only)

    – stainless steel shroud instead of porcelain enamel shroud (Genesis and Spirit)

    So, Weber Spirit or Genesis?

Ok, we’ve looked at the basic differences between the models. We’ve established that the Genesis range offers better quality stainless steel construction, but you pay considerably extra for that.

So, with the Spirit still being a well-constructed unit, it comes down to your requirements in the end. How much cooking space you need, what extras you need and what your budget can handle.

Personally we feel a Genesis is worth it from a long term investment perspective. These grills are built to last, and a model like the Genesis E-330 will give you everything you’ll ever need from a gas grill in this price range. Spending a bit more from the start has its advantages in the long term.

However, the choice is yours. The one thing we can recommend is that you get a model with a side burner. You don’t want to save fifty bucks now by skipping it, only to realize a few months down the road that it would have been nice to have. Buy once and buy right.

To help you compare features, you’ll find a comparison table below.

    Comparison Table

To simplify things we left out the 210 and 310 Spirit models, for two reasons:

1 – the only difference is the side burner that you get with the 220/320 models

2 – the price differences are so small that you may as well get the 220/320 and be done with it

This table highlights and compares all the major features of the most popular models in the Weber Spirit vs Genesis range.

    Weber Genesis E-330 Gas Grill

Simply put the Weber Genesis line of grills are the best you can buy in this price range and beyond. The list price is $949USD, but you can typically find it for around $800USD. What you get with the E-330 is a three burner grill (available in three colors), a 12,000 BTU side burner, and a 10,000 BTU internally mounted sear burner. Other models in this series come without the side burner or the sear burner.

You decide which configuration works for you and buy only what you need.

    • Solid construction of durable parts
    • Weber Support
    • Sear burner provides extremely high-temperature capability

    • Low grades of stainless steel throughout
    • Slower preheat times

    • Three 12,666 BTU stainless steel tubular burners
    • 507 square inches of primary grilling space for a total cooking area of 637 square inches
    • 38,000 BTU maximum output from the main burners
    • 12,000 BTU standard side burner under a flush mounted cover
    • 10,000 BTU internal booster sear burner
    • Push button electric (AA-battery) ignition
    • Porcelain-coated cast iron cooking grates
    • Constructed of cast aluminum, enameled steel and stainless steel (400 series stainless)
    • Dual layer hood
    • Sold as Propane or Natural Gas - Not convertible
    • Propane tank, cover, and rotisserie kit sold separately
    • Made in the USA

Guide Review - Weber Genesis E-330 Gas Grill

For 2011, Weber has redesigned their popular line of Genesis grills.

The burners, which used to run parallel to the front of the grill, with controls on the right side table, are now run perpendicular to the front of the grill with the controls in the front. Now, after 25 years, the Weber Genesis grill is much more like all the other grills on the market, at least as far as the burner design goes.

Being Weber, this wasn't a rash decision and after three years of development, the new Genesis grill is a more efficient grill. I won't go into all the details here, but what I can say is that this grill really hasn't changed the way the grill cooks.

Of course, if you are reading this you are not interested in what the Genesis used to be, but what it is now. Put simply, this grill is one of the most efficient standard gas grills on the market as well as one of the best built. For the price, there really isn't a better grill on the market, and while this is a basic, no-frills gas grill, it does what you want, it grills hot and fast while giving you the ability to do low, indirect grilling.

To really understand the Genesis grill, you need to look inside the firebox. The three burners put out only 38,000 BTUs under 507 square inches of cooking space or about 75 BTUs per square inch. While this is low when compared to other gas grills, the Weber Genesis is more efficient than most grills. This efficient? Not really. The reduction of BTUs with the new design means that this grill will not heat up as quickly as older models. However, the addition of the sear burner in the E-330 gives it higher cooking grate temperatures than any previous Genesis Grill.

What really makes the Weber Genesis E-330 stand out is its quality. The attention to detail that takes 3 years to change the burner design can be seen in every part of this grill. This means that everything on this grill works (they actually fire up every grill before it is packaged), and since there is a 10-year warranty on virtually everything in this grill you can rely on it to last for at least a decade and I would believe longer.

This model includes a 12,000 BTU side burner under a flush mounted cover on the right side table and a 10,000 BTU sear burner. This sear burner is simply an additional, standard burner built inside the firebox between the center and left burners. This boosts the heat output on this side of the grill giving you an intense heat for searing.

Weber 7107 grill cover with storage bag for genesis gas grills

          • new and improved version
          • good warranty
          • durable
          • overpriced

          What we think

Each year, Weber opens up new ways to simplify and improve the storing of grills, makes it more efficient and productive. As well as working to expand the range of grills, they offer new solutions to protect their devices from harsh weather conditions. Weber 7107 cover can guaranty integrity to your device in all kinds of environments due to its perfectly fitted form and Velcro straps to ensure extra-snug fit.

This is certainly a new and improved version and in comparison to older models it does not become stiff and brittle after the usage, which proves that the better quality of the material is used. The new polyester cover is fantastic. It looks and feels new. Let’s hope that this will last for long, although they offer 3 years of warranty. As the reviews go, the weather conditions do not influence it and the cover proceeds to fit the grill perfectly. This new cover turns to be lighter, looser, and more pliable to fit in the attached storage bag. Furthermore, it proved the ability to keep the grill high and dry. Weber grill cover does not let the rain and snow form condensate under the cover. However, the price is nearly double higher than other similar models, so let us expect that it will serve for 3-5 years, not less.

Durable bbq cover with heavy-duty weather resistant fabric

          • price
          • perfect fit
          • well-made seams
          • 2 nice size handles
          • drawstring and straps

          What we think

Gardelle Fabric System offers an elegant water-resistant material with a protective waterproof backing and a protective dark splashguard skirt, which is very helpful in all types of weather. The cover goes in 7 sizes, which makes it easier to choose the necessary one. A custom-fit barbeque cover has an elastic hem cord with toggles that are used to adjust to a tight and custom fit.

It is difficult to speak about the cover’s longevity but it seems to be very well made and fits pretty well. The cover has an additional space, which eases the process of taking off and on. It has some extra side room, and the bottom lies on the ground, as it is reviewed. It is possible to adjust the bottom by pulling the string or straps that are included. Depending on the model of the grill, you will need to pull the string to tighten the skirt or use the buckle straps to attach the cover to the wheels. 2 nice size handles toward the top really help when removing the cover. Covered side vents let the moisture out, but not in. The drawstring and straps are also a nice addition. The only con as the reviews go is the lack of colors. It is supposed that a darker cover can hide the discoloring better if it happens while using the cover for a longer time.

          What we think

This is a very high quality cover. The material is thick. A pocket in the front on top is a cool addition. As this cover has a light cream khaki color, it can reflect the light and heat of the sun, which is difficult to say about black covers. Therefore, it can be more durable, especially in hotter climates. In general, this cover has a good price to buy it.

Two handles up on top are a very useful feature. They help to adjust the cover on the grill easily and take it off and on without any problems. The side ties are also great. They keep the cover tight to the grill. Another nice feature is the vents on the top that do not let water get in but stores the device nicely ventilated. It is heavy enough not to fell during a windy day. This model can cover the grill almost completely. However, there are some complaints about the color where the panels are stitched together. It was reviewed that the top panel has some shades of yellow and brown, while the rest remains the original color. However, after the replacement of this item with a similar one, no changes were noticed. The problem may be not in the model, but in different factories producing this cover.

Texas gas grill cover 7553 premium cover for weber genesis gas grill including grill brush and tongs

          • pliable
          • a stainless steel grill brush
          • set of tongs
          • logo printed
          • wrong size listed

          What we think

This cover is suitable for Weber Genesis E and S grills, which is very convenient for the users of these devices. The quality of the material turns to be rather good as it is made of the all-weather heavy-duty vinyl; it is crack-resistant and has a UV protection. It covers the grill perfectly and protects from everything.

The cover is made of thick superior materials and there are no complaints as to its serving. The cost of the model is also a pleasant surprise for the buyers with the medium income. Such a good quality at a reasonable price is a real bargain. Additional bonus is a grill brush and tongs. Among other advantages we should mention that it fits well the grills and brings no problems to take it on or off. The material is rather heavy so it remains untouched during strong winds. Some customers do not like the logo printed on the front with a picture of the grill. The cover is equipped with Velcro straps that are similar to Weber covers, which are significantly higher in a price range. So the design and functional of this cover is a good match to the cost charged. But be attentive as to the size listed as there were some complaints about the wrong size stated.

          What we think

This cover proves to be a rather cheap offer although with a rather decent quality. The material of the model is weather, rip and flame resistant. It is equipped with elastic hem cord with toggle for the better adjustment. Click-close straps ensure the secure placement of the cover. Air vents are among the evident benefits of the cover.

This is a rather cart-style barbeque and it is available in 6 different sizes and 3 colours. The cover is made from a thick material with durable interlocking seams and convenient zipped front pocket. There are padded handles and a splash-guard skirt. The straps help to keep the cover from blowing up. The side secure flaps let the air flow through the cover and help to dry the moister. It also allows the wind to go through but no water comes under it. It is reviewed that after spending some time under the sun and rain, it does not lose its original colour. It even survived a thunderstorm. However, a couple of the reviews complains about the mildew stains present on the cover initially. But let us hope that this is something exceptional but not the rule! This is a beneficial combination of price and quality.

          What we think

The cover Kingkong can be used with Weber Genesis E and S grills as well as for Genesis Gas grills but the price of it is a bit lower than the original Weber’s covers, although the quality is decent. It is made of all-weather heavy-duty vinyl and resists crack, water and UV. It fits properly the grill due to its good design and Velcro straps.

This is a rather interesting model and is surely worth our attention. Among the main benefit is a 3-year warranty. As to the additional features, we can’t but mention stainless steel grill brush, cooking thermometer and tongs that will surely help you save money. Velcro straps protect the cover from blowing up. It fits perfectly the grill. The material used for the cover seems to be thinner than those of Weber’s covers and because of this it is more flexible at low temperatures and you do not face problems while taking it on and off. At the same time, it is a waterproof material, but weights less. In general, the cover is good which can’t be said about the thermometer, it does not show the temperature properly. But did you intend to buy a cover or a thermometer?

          • durable material
          • cost
          • Velcro straps
          • holds the heat

          What we think

Specially designed durable cover for grills Char-Broil all season will protect your grill from dust, wind, rain, and snow. The cover is made from a black polyester material with PVC inner coating and extra strips to fix. It is suitable for 2-3 burner grills. This is a medium-duty model that will shield your device from any possible damages.

The model fits grills perfectly well. Although it is stated that it is for 2-3 burners, the reviews show that it can be used for bigger models without any problems. The only problem mentioned is that when the grill in this cover remains under the direct sunlight for a long time, it holds the heat and the device becomes hot to use. Maybe, this is because of the black colour of the cover that attracts the sun. The material is rather heavy and it does not catch the wind so you may not be afraid of searching it in your neighbour’s yard. The Velcro straps also help to fix it tightly to the grill base. As to the price, it is really affordable and it is much cheaper than the cover for 4 burners. Therefore, if you want to save and are sure that it will fit your grill, then it will be a good deal for you!

          What we think

Not a bad cover at such a price. It is made from a heavy-duty material that resists water, rip and weather, so it can be used the whole year round. As it is applied to a lot of grill models it can be called a universal cover. This cover is equipped with Velcro straps that keep it safely on the device. It also provides a 12-months free warranty and 60 days money back warranty.

It is good that the cover of such quality and at such a price have appeared on the market of grill covers. But be attentive and measure your grills correctly before purchasing it.

This cover is specially created for medium sized grills of various styles and brands. But do not forget to find out the size of your grill before buying it.

The ultimate guide to choosing a grill cover

A grill created by the famous company is a device with a well thought-out design of advanced materials. It will delight your family and friends with beautiful dishes, providing you the joy of cooking more than one season. However, any device, including a modern grill requires care.

Outdoor grills must be protected from precipitation, dust, dirt. No prudent owner will leave his expensive grill without protective coating. Although the grills are often made from porcelain or stainless coated steel, they have a tendency to rust over the time. Sooner or later, the question of finding a cover for the grill to shield your investment from unfavorable weather condition begins to worry you.

So what are those important keys that you need to consider while choosing the best cover for your grill? It comes out that there are three main keys that should guide you in your choice. First of all, it is necessary to buy a cover that fits your grill. If the choice is wrong, there will be no use of it. Secondly, you need a cover made of sturdy material. Finally, the correct grill cover should be equipped with some kind of ties down mechanism.

          Shape and Size

To find the cover that fits your grill perfectly, it is necessary to find out the exterior dimension of the grill. Too loose cover can be removed by a strong wind. Too tight cover can tear on the edges and corners.

Consider the shape of your grill. Do not choose rectangle shaped covers for round grills. Cover of a proper shape will not have excess material that can be battered in the wind or catch water.

For most models of popular manufacturers, you can easily purchase the cover designed by the company. This protective coating will perfectly fit the shape of your device. It is convenient to put on and take off. Actually, the company covers are designed precisely in order to facilitate the care of the grill.

          Durability and Quality

The main emphasis in choosing the cover should be paid on the quality of the material. It should be a high quality, strong and durable material. Outdoor grill covers should not fade in the sun, should protect against moisture and dust, and other adverse weather conditions. The best material for grill covers is dense, wear-resistant, and waterproof. Also, the grill covers provide protection against insects and rodents that is an essential feature in certain conditions. Some manufacturers make an air vent grille cover. The air vent protects from moisture or condensation under the cover and as a result, your grill will be safe from rust and corrosion. It also reduces ballooning on windy days.

Sometimes manufacturers offer grill covers from scrap materials of polyester, canvas, etc. But if you want to ensure your device is really well protected, it is better to choose a special cover made of durable vinyl. It is also recommended to pay attention to the waterproof grill covers that have few seams, as they can become unsown over time. To be sure in the quality of the cover, feel the material to ensure that it is thick and durable and the seams are tight.

The name of the cover manufacturer is also the sign of its quality and durability. Do not buy some unfamiliar brands only because they are cheap. Real quality cannot be cheap, so be ready for this!

This is also one of the key factors that you need to mind while choosing the cover, and especially, the best grill cover for winter. It often happens so that during windstorms the grill cover does not stand on. The proper grill cover should have tie strings or an elastic bottom to secure the cover to the device. In this way, your cover will not blow away. There are even models that have strings or hooks to attach the cover to the grill.

          Conclusion

Every manufacturer is trying to invest in their covers maximum characteristics in order to get your grill intact. We have tried to provide you with the most important notions as to the models available and guide you through the process of choosing the necessary cover for your grill. If you have read this article attentively, you will have no problems to select the proper model for your grill that will fit it ideally and serve you for a long time. Do not just forget that the presence of the cover is an indispensable factor of safety of your grill. If you do not have it, you can certainly cover the grill with your own materials, but this does not guarantee its safety.

Keep your grill properly and over the time, you will understand that the grill cover has no substitute.

          Weber Genesis Grill Parts

The key to choosing the correct Weber Genesis grill parts lies in measuring the length of the Flavorizer bars. Once you know the length of the Flavorizer bars most of the other parts automatically fall into place.

Weber Genesis Grill Parts: Flavorizer Bars =17.5 inches

          Weber Genesis E 310

These are parts for the Weber Genesis 310, Weber Genesis 320 and Weber Genesis 330 that have the burner controls mounted on the FRONT of the grill.

These parts will fit both the Stainless Steel or Enameled Steel versions of these grills.

Igniter Kit for Weber Genesis 330 (Buy this one if your grill has the Sear Station)

Weber Genesis Grill Parts: Flavorizer Bars = 24.5 inches

These are parts for the Weber Genesis 310, Weber Genesis 320 and Weber Genesis 330 that have the burner controls mounted on the SIDE of the grill. These grills were made between 2007 and 2010.

These parts will fit both the Stainless Steel or Enameled Steel versions of these grills.

          Weber Genesis E 320

The Genesis 300 series grills made in the first year of production, 2007, have minor differences in the ignition systems and burner tubes than the grills made in 2008-2010.

You can tell if your Genesis 310 or 320 was made in 2007 by the ignition assembly. Grills made in 2007 have a METAL “box” covering the sparking electrode. Here is what a 2007 ignition system looks like.

If the electrode housing on your grill looks like what is pictured above then it was made in 2007. Here are the proper links to the correct burner tubes and ignition kit.

The Genesis grills made between 2008-2010 have a white ceramic housing for the sparking electrode. Here is what a 2008-2010 ignition system looks like.

If the electrode housing on your grill looks like what is pictured above then it was made between 2008 and 2010. Here are the proper links to the correct burner tubes and ignition kit.

Weber Genesis Grill Parts: Flavorizer Bars = 23.5 inches

Here is really tricky part of the Weber product line! These Flavorizer bars are limited to Weber Genesis Gold and Platinum grills made between 2000 and 2001. You will see a lot of negative comments on Amazon for some of these parts from people with later model Genesis Gold grills buying the wrong part.

I have a 2001 Weber Genesis Gold and it took me a while to figure out what was going on with these parts 🙂

Weber Genesis Grill Parts: Flavorizer Bars = 22.5 inches

These Weber Genesis grill parts are for the Weber Silver B and C grills. These parts also fit the Weber Genesis Gold (B and C) and Platinum grills that were made in 2002 and later.

The ignition system on these grills changed around 2001 but it’s pretty easy to figure out which igniter you need.

Older ignition systems are held in place with a lock nut and have a black push button. Here is the link for the correct replacement Weber Igniter Kit.

The newer grills in this family are held in place with a Snap-Fit feature and have a red push button. Here is the link for the correct replacement Weber Igniter Kit

Weber Genesis Grill Parts: Flavorizer Bars = 21.5 inches

These Flavorizer bars go with the two burner Weber Genesis Silver A. The Silver A is an incredible little grill. If you find one of these on Craigslist don’t hesitate to grab it and fix it up!

Ignition system: There are two different ignition systems for these grills (the change happened around 2001).

If the top of the ignitor is red then you need the Snap Fit Igniter Kit .

If the top of the ignitor is black then you need the Lock Nut Igniter Kit .

Weber Genesis Grill Parts: 8 long and 5 short Flavorizer bars

These are the original Weber Genesis grills! These bars are for the Genesis 1-5, Genesis 1000-5000 and Platinum I and Platinum II grills!

I just added the link for the 23.5 inch porcelain bars in the appropriate section above. They are listed directly under the stainless steel flavorizer bars.

Do you sell hardware for these bbq’s as well? I have a genesis 2 (I think) that I’ve stripped down and would like to put back together using new screws and bolts instead of reusing the old rusty ones that I’m afraid could snap.

New 2017 Weber Genesis Gas Grill Photos

Genesis II With Open & Closed Cabinets Featured at Ace Hardware Convention in Chicago

Photos of new 2017 Weber Genesis gas grills started showing up online in the past few weeks. One of my sources saw these grills today at the Ace Hardware convention in Chicago and says they are real beauties!

Weber Genesis II LX stainless steel 6-burner with storage cabinet, side burner, handle lights and integrated tool hooks

Weber is reviving the Genesis II nameplate from the late-1980s for these new grills in 2017. Back in those early years, the Genesis line consisted of 2- and 3-burner grills. Around 1998, Weber introduced the premium Summit line that offered 4- and 6-burner models. In 2007, Weber dropped the Genesis Silver A 2-burner grill from the lineup in favor of the less expensive Spirit E-210 2-burner grill, leaving Genesis as a line of 3-burner grills only.

For 2017, Weber greatly expands the Genesis lineup. The Genesis II features a series of 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-burner grills in propane and LP that come in a variety of colors, including stainless steel, and in basic and upgraded LX versions.

Weber Genesis II black 6-burner with open cabinet

Weber brings back an open cabinet design on basic models–a design they discontinued in 2003/2004 in favor of enclosed storage cabinets with doors–with the usual porcelain coated cooking grates and Flavorizer bars. All grills appear to have an “iGrill Ready” work surface for use with the recently acquired iGrill remote thermometer.

An upgraded LX option is available that provides the enclosed cabinet along with other features including side burner, stainless steel rod cooking grates, stainless steel Flavorizer bars, electronic LP tank meter, handle lights and front-mounted tool hooks.

Weber Genesis II crimson 4-burner with open cabinet

Lids appear shorter in these photos than on current grills. Not sure if that’s real or just something having to do with the photography. It will be interesting to measure the dimensions to see how much headroom, if any, has been lost inside the grill.

Weber Genesis II LX stainless steel 2-burner with storage cabinet, side burner, handle light and integrated tool hooks

2017 marks the return of a 2-burner grill to the Genesis lineup. The last 2-burner Genesis was the Genesis Silver A in 2006 which gave way to the Spirit E-210 in 2007. It will be interesting to see how this new grill is received by consumers vs. the Spirit 2-burner.

          New Trademarked Logo

All these grills feature the “Weber GS4 High Performance” logo located on the upper left corner of the front control panel. Weber GS4 High Performance is a new trademark registered in March 2016 that apparently refers to newly designed high performance burners.

MSRP for basic grills are said to be:

Top of the line 6-burner grill in LX configuration is said to have an MSRP of $1,999.

          More Choice or More Confusion?

The unanswered question in all this is whether these new grills will compliment the existing Spirit and Summit lines or whether they will create confusion. With the 2-burner grill overlapping with the Spirit line and the 4- and 6-burner grills overlapping with the Summit line, it will be incumbent on Weber to clearly explain the value proposition of these new grills and to delineate the feature differences between the Spirit/Genesis/Summit lines, beyond just the obvious difference in MSRP.

It’s not easy for manufacturers to communicate these differences…I remember from my days working at HP how difficult it was for the company to clearly and concisely to explain the difference in features between so many brands and models of laptop computer or inkjet printer. What’s the difference between Photosmart and OfficeJet? Between Pavilion and Elitebook and Probook?

Also, there is such a thing as too many choices. Too many choices can paralyze consumers. Currently there are 4 models in the Genesis line, and the only overlap is with Spirit 3-burner grills. If you want a 2-, 4- or 6-burner grill, you’ve got to look outside the Genesis line.

Now, If I understand correctly, there will be 8 models in the Genesis line, and all of them will overlap with grills in the Spirit and Summit lines. I predict confusion for consumers…unless Weber discontinues Spirit and/or Summit, but the likelihood of that seems to be about zero.

I hope Weber isn’t making a mistake here. Only time will tell.

          Weber Genesis Silver

My absolute favorite gas grill is the Weber Genesis Silver A. My brother-in-law owns a Genesis Silver and I get to use it about every two weeks. Most of my grilling is done on the Weber Genesis 1000 in my backyard. While I love my big three burner grill there is something special about firing up this little two burner classic.

(If you need parts for you Weber Genesis Silver A, B or C model grill they are listed at the bottom of this page.)

The Genesis 1000, with its thirteen Flavorizer bars and three burners delivers highly effective brute force. The Silver A, with five Flavorizer bars and two burners, is smaller, simpler and might be just a little more fun. The cooking area on the Silver A is about 20% less than on the full size Genesis. However grill space has never been an issue even when grilling for six people.

I love the Silver A for the market need it served. This product was designed for people who wanted an entry level Weber grill. If you bought this grill you got the exact same Weber quality and performance as the larger grills but at a slightly lower price. This is not something you get today with Weber’s entry level Spirit grills.

The Genesis Silver A was Weber’s second two burner grill. Weber’s first two burner gas grill, the Weber Genesis Junior, came out in 1993. The Junior was a great grill but was not produced very long. The Genesis Junior was the first Weber gasser to come with spider guards on the burner tubes. The Junior came with eleven Flavorizer bars which were a non-standard size making replacement parts hard to find. If you are interested here is the Owner’s Manual for the Weber Genesis Junior. Weber Genesis Junior Owners Manual

The Weber Genesis Silver A came out around 1999-2000 and filled the gap left by the Genesis Junior. Here is the Owner’s Manual for the Weber Genesis Silver A. Weber Genesis Silver A Owners Manual

The Genesis Silver A was introduced along with a slew of other new Weber Genesis gassers. The whole Weber Genesis product line was very confusing. In total there were three Weber Genesis Silver grills (A, B, C) launched. Additionally there were two Genesis Golds (B, C) and two Genesis Platinums (B, C). The correct Weber Genesis Silver parts along with a brief description of these grills is provided below. Scroll past the parts lists to find the right ignition system…it is a little tricky.

          Weber Genesis Silver A Parts:

Two burner gas grill with Thermoset work table.

          Weber Genesis Silver B Parts:

A three burner grill with a plastic fold-able side table.

          Weber Genesis Silver C Parts:

A three main burner grill with a side table plus a side burner.

This is a little tricky as Weber changed how the ignitor is held onto the frame in 2002.

Before 2002 the ignitor was held onto the frame with a lock nut. This is what it looks like. Note the black/grey top and the rusted out lock nut. If your ignitor looks like this then the correct replacement part is the Weber 7509 Igniter Kit

After 2002 Weber had a Snap Fit ignitor. Here is what the kit looks like. Note the red top.

If this is what your ignitor looks like then the correct replacement part is the Weber 7510 Igniter Kit

Fortunately it is still very easy to get replacement Weber Genesis Silver parts. If you happen to come across an old Weber Genesis Silver on Craigslist then give it a serious look. They are much nicer grills than the new entry level Spirit grill and can be rehabbed for cheap.

Here is the link over to a site I set up that is completely dedicated to the Weber Genesis Silver. The site has detailed instructions for how to install the burner tubes and igniters as well as a few tricks to help you figure out when your Silver was made.

Confusing? You betcha! Ours came with generic instructions that would apply to every single Weber grill on the market (with notes and comments for each model) and it was nearly impossible to figure out what our model was!

Manuel, I hope I was able to make things a little easier for you! Thanks for dropping by!

I have a Weber Genesis Silver which I bought c. 10 years ago.

The ignitor no longer works and someone mentioned the other day that there was a battery inside the unit. I had a look and could not see how to access the internals of the unit.

Do the have a battery and is it possible to replace it?

Ron, I believe your friend is mistaken. I just checked the Owner’s manuals for the different Silvers and it looks like they all have a piezoeletric push button ignition. I will find the right part number and get a link up for you this evening. I appreciate you stopping by and asking the question!

We were given a Genesis Silver and didn’t realize that the tank has to be mounted on the outside of the grill. We really don’t like this. The tank was hidden on the other grill we had. Is there anyway at all to be able to mount the tank inside the grill? It is a 20lb tank and we already tried sitting it on the shelf inside the door but it didn’t fit. Can that shelf be removed at all? We just dont want the tank sitting outside the grill..

Angie, to the best of my knowledge the shelf does not provide any essential structural stability. I don’t see why it couldn’t be removed.

Have you thought about getting a cover for the propane tank? There are some nice looking covers that won’t hide the tank but will make it more pleasant to look at.

I just picked up an old Genesis Silver C from Craigslist and while it’s got a stainless cook grate in great shape, the warming rack and basket are super rusty and almost completely rusted through. Any chance of adding the appropriate racks to your page? Looking on Amazon there appears to be a couple different models which are slightly different but claim to be for a Genesis while not necessarily specifying a year

Jon, just added them. I hope this helps!

It does, thanks for the great page!

I recently moved and when I tried my Genesis Silver (which I’ve never had one problem with in 13 years) for the first time, absolutely nothing happened. I put a match in the hole and still nothing. Any ideas? I was thinking the ignitor might have died, but then wouldn’t it still light with a match?? Thanks for any help, it’s the best grill I’ve ever owned and I don’t want to think about having to replace it!

From what you describe you are not getting gas through the burner tubes. Some simple things to check are if there is any propane left in the tank and if the tank was open and not shut off.

There is also a built in safety feature that restricts the flow of propane if an excessive flow is detected.

To reset the flow restrictor you need to first make sure that the regulator is properly connected to the propane tank. I would take it off and put it back on just to be sure.

Next you need to make sure that the gas is turned OFF to all of the burners with the control knobs.

SLOWLY open the valve on the propane tank.

You should then be able to light the grill normally.

Thanks, tried all those things and still nothing. Maybe the movers knocked a tube out of place or something. , but i don’t think I’m going to risk messing around under there.

Eliza, I am so very sorry that your grill is so broken!

I wish I was there to take a closer look at the manifold assembly. Might be time to list that grill on Craigslist and pick up a new one.

Apologies for not being able to help you more!

Thanks, I appreciate you trying. There doesn’t appear to be anything loose, and there’s no gas smell when I turn it on and try to light it, so from everything I’ve read it sounds like my tank or my regulator are bad.

I had a very similar experience as Eliza described with my Genisis Silver. I was told to turn off the propane bottle, disconnect the regulator hose from the bottle, open the burner knobs and wait a few minutes. Then close the burner knobs and reconnect the regulator hose. Then SLOWLY open the propane valve and light the burners as you normally would. VIOLA` , It worked! Now I have a replacement regulator that I purchased before I tried this trick.

Thanks for sharing, Randy! Very helpful!!

David thanks for this site and the links. My story is that my father owned weber grills (2) for 30+ years and was always trying to get me to buy one. But I always went with cheaper grills and probably went through 6 or 7 in my 35 years of adulthood. Recently my latest a kenmore grill became terminally ill due to the firebox rusting through. I was determined to buy a weber this time. But as luck would have it a neighbor was throwing out an old weber silver A. It wasn’t in bad shape. It needed a lot of cleaning up and a few new parts including flavorizer bars and grates but your site made that easy. The rehab cost about $150 -but I love this thing. It works better than any grill I’ve owned. And saved a lot of $$ -compared to buying new. Thanks again for a great site.

Greg, thank you for the awesome feedback! I am so glad that you are now a Weber owner 🙂

Those little Silver A grills are great little grilling machines!

You have the best, informative and friendly site I have ever seen on our beloved little Webers!

          Thank You! And Thank You!

I am the happy owner of a Genesis Silver A 2004/05 from what I have read.

It has not received the care it deserved and needed. It is in pretty bad shape.

I am in the process of ordering replacement parts and am happy to read that others also think the money on parts is worth it.

I have a question about the overall body of the grill, cleaning, vs replacement. Its obvious the bottom half just needs a good cleaning, but there are flakes of black that appear to be paint

falling from the inside of the lid onto the grill area. If it’s truly paint, can I scrape, power spray, remove it in some way to make grilling food safe again? Or does the lid need replaced? That seems pretty major. I guess I’m also asking, ‘What’s the best way to totally clean an old grimy barbecue? Guess I’m just trying to make my Dad proud. The ultimate fixer/BBQ man would never have let his grill get this way in the first place!

Thanks so much for your help!

Jody, thanks for dropping by! Good news…the flaking is very common and is NOT a big deal. The flaking is not paint. The flaking is actually a thin film of carbon that builds up from vaporized grease. It is a sign that the grill has gotten a lot of use and just needs a little cleaning. I typically scrub tye lid with a grill brush to dislodge any major pieces of film and then wipe it down with a paper towel. You could power wash, etc if you want but it’s not really needed.

I have the same flaking up inside the lid: I figured it was a carbonized grease-film as you say, but it’s so SHINY, looks JUST like gloss black paint, it’s got me a little spooked… are you sure sure SURE about this?

          Thanks for your patience, David.

Hey David, great site: I commend your passion and diligence!

I’m refurbing a Genesis Silver what I think is a Model A, but I’m a little confused, because while it’s a two-burner model, it has the thermometer in the center of the cover and has the folding table on the left like a Model B. The big issue for me is the burners which are completely rusted out so I obviously have to buy new ones. My question is whether there is only one two-burner Genesis Silver burner-type. I’m guessing my divergence from the classic Model A is merely cosmetic, but I want to get it right: a little help?

kc, thanks for dropping by! Your Silver A with the center mounted thermometer was made in 2004-2005. It uses the exact same burner tubes as the earlier models.

          Thanks: you’re a peach!

Hey David, I got the burner tubes installed, got the Silver A all cleaned-up, and took it for a shakedown cruise yesterday: super happy with this grill!

…I have a couple of thoughts about parts:

          1) my burner tubes would probably have been good for several more years, it was the crossover-tube that rusted through at the ends where it’s cut 1/2-way through to start with. I’d imagine this would often be the case. Do you know if there’s an option to buy the crossover tube separately?

          2) I like your article about the grills for this guy. Looking around a bit I see that, if you don’t mind buying chinese, there’s an aftermarket stainless set with solid 7mm rods that should fit nicely and is cheaper than the weber stainless: here’s the link http://www.amazonDOTcom/Hongso-Aftermarket-stainless-Cooking-Replacement/dp/B00W1AIV5S/ . I’ll probably get a set of these next time I get $52 to spare 🙂

          Ferd Berfel says

I have a Silver B. I’m replacing flavor bars ignition and grates for at least the third time. No complaints about that- use the crap out of it!

THey painted the inside of the lid. BIG mistake! I like to run mine up to about 4-500 degrees for a few minutes before I use it. That paint likes to peel off and flake into the food. So I also have to scrape the inside of the lid before I use it to make sure I’m not eating paint flakes. I notice that they don’t paint the inside of the lid on most models any more. I’m sure this is why. I’ve had mine for well over 10 years and the paint is STILL flaking off. I’ve even hit it hard with a good pressure washer. but the paint still flakes.

Note to Weber – NO PAINT on the inside. bare metal is preferable

Fred, you are having a pretty common problem. It turns out that what you are seeing is NOT paint. Instead, every time you grill the grease drippings get vaporized and a portion of them start forming a very thin carbon /creosote layer on the inside of the lid. The more you grill the more this carbon layer builds up and eventually flakes off.

Don’t worry about the flaking and keep grilling 🙂

          Weber genesis grill

You want a great grill, buy a Weber.

The last Weber Genesis grill we had lasted us over 16 years! My daughter now has it and is enjoying it.

Keep it covered and clean, it will last.

The only item I ever replaced were the flavor bars and propane bottles.

Yes. It's worth twice the cheap grills.

So, the short answer is yes, this grill is worth the exponential difference between it and the "affordable" grills at the Big Box stores. The construction is sturdy. The warranty is amazing. Call them if you aren't sure.

Awesome grill but difficult to clean porcelain exterior

I specifically bought the special edition porcelain version because I wanted stainless flavorizer bars and grates, but I didn't want a stainless exterior as I thought it would look dirty all the time. Turns out the porcelain exterior seems even worse to clean. I can never get it looking good again, no matter how much effort I put in. I'm almost thinking the hood is defective. Otherwise awesome grill, but wish I bought either a different color or all stainless.

          Great grill

I used this grill the first time Memorial Day. I got the grill hot and then turned back to low and it held constant temperature. The searing feature is great. Had great grill marks on the meat. I would recommend this grill to family and friends.

Weber & Ace -- An Unbeatable Combination

I'm a Weber fanboy. My new Genesis EP300 is my third Weber Gas grill and sixth Weber grill. They cannot be beat for durability, cooking quality and customer support. This new Genesis in the Smoke color is stunning -- looks better than the stainless model and appears to be more durable. Very even cooking temperature, heats quickly and retains heat very well.

          A truly great grill.

I have owned several grills in the past. This Weber grill is expensive compared to many other grills but I believe it is worth every penny. Everything about it is better designed than any other grill I have used. The heat distribution is much better, the heat source is positioned so that it doesn't flame up from the drippings. The grease trap is easy to use and the take out drip pan is much easier to clean. The quality of everything on this grill is better than any other grill I looked at and I looked a lot. I haven't found anything that I don't like. I especially like the options of the stainless steel grilling surface with the smoke color porcelain grill hood and doors that only Ace Hardware offers.

          Great Grill

Dent in the cabinet door and the side of the hood was scuffed. Wasn't worth the hassle of taking back. Grill cooks great. Didn't realize how bad our old Weber gas grill was until we started cooking on the new one. Can't complain, the old one lasted nearly 20 years. We grill nearly everyday during the summer.
