    Weber grill spirit 320

What an incredible grille, highly recommended.

After going thru (2) of the nice looking (but poorly designed) Charbroil "Infared" grilles, I finally broke down, paid out my money, and bought the Range Rover of grilles. If only I Had done so sooner! I bought this at Ace over Memorial Day Weekend, 2015. I got the 3-burner, S.S., Spirit with side burner. This was a giant step-up from a 2-burner stainless Charbroil brand with NO side burner. My neighbor and one of my co-workers have stainless Weber Genesis models, so I admit to suffering from envy. However, seeing as how they are older than me and their grilles have lasted 10+ years, I deferred to their wisdom. This thing is fantastic! From the sold gas connections to the beefier wiring, to the very stainless steel grates themselves, this thing is a freakin' TANK. This thing literally cooks food in 1/3 the time as the frustratingly inefficient Charbroil Infared series, which is also a gigantic pain-in-the-rear to clean. This Weber is fantastic to clean, as not only does it have a drip tray, but the entire bottom part of the grilling area slides out as a tray!! So really all you have to do is place aluminum foil on that part, and then remove and replace it each month!! Wow. The stainless grates (2) remove and can easily be placed in a dishwasher. The controls knobs are solid (no wobble), and it fires right up, and heats up - FAST. The propane tank level indicator is genius and simple. I had my Charbroil brand for 5 hard years, and every year I was replacing expensive parts. Screw that. For what I paid in parts on the Charbroil junk I could have gotten this Weber 5 years ago. I'm literally kicking myself. As I said, I bought this at an ACE and I got instant $50 credit when I opened an ACE credit card account, then also $50 instant gift card, AND 0% interest for 9 months! So I saved $100.00 right off the bat, which I used for the Weber custom cover, which has it's own 3 year warranty. There's no going back, I'm Weber all the way now. Outdoor cooking has become a pleasure, instead of a messy hassle.

    Great Grill

I researched and researched which grill would best suit our needs. I continued to discover the Weber grill was the Cadillac of grills, for home grillers. The grill was easy to assemble. It does not take up a lot of space on our patio. We have used it several times and love it more each time. It heats up quickly and evenly. I would definitely purchase this grill and the cover that goes with it again. You won't be sorry.

This is my mother gift for my wife. Initially looking for the black version of this product but went to SS all the way. It took me about 2.5 hours to assemble but in fact you can do it in an hour with a little help. Be careful not to over tighten those gray screws so you don't end up breaking some like others. It says made it China but the quality looks good. I heard Genesis or summit are made in USA but not the spirit models. I did not do fuel leak test and it seems to be fine. Overall my wife likes it and that's the bottom line.

    Weber Spirit SP-320 Gas Grill

With a list price of $699USD, the "premium" Weber Spirit SP-320 has a stainless steel hood and door, but what makes it premium is the stainless steel rod cooking grates. While these look shiny when they are new, they don't really offer a real improvement to the grill. Solidly built, but with lower quality stainless steel, the Spirit is the lower priced gas grill line from Weber.

This model is a basic 3-burner grill with the standard Weber features including a propane gauge and side burner.

    • Backed by Weber warranties and support

    • Lower grades of stainless steel throughout
    • Very basic grill for the price

    • Three 10,667 BTU stainless steel tubular burners
    • 424 square inches of primary cooking area with 529 square inches of total cooking area
    • 32,000 BTU maximum output from the main burners
    • 12,000 BTU standard side burner under a flush mounted cover
    • Stainless steel rod cooking grates
    • Electric (AA-Battery) crossover ignition
    • Porcelain enameled steel, stainless steel (400 series) and cast aluminum construction
    • Fully enclosed cabinet
    • Hood mounted thermometer and propane tank gauge

Guide Review - Weber Spirit SP-320 Gas Grill

This is the premium version of the Weber Spirit Grill line. The Spirit grills were designed by Weber to be a more affordable alternative to the Genesis Grills.

To achieve this goal, Weber made the Spirit Grills smaller and produced them in China. While Spirit Grills have much of the features of the Genesis versions, they are a simpler grill. What makes this model "premium" is the stainless steel rod cooking grates. Not really an improvement over the standard porcelain coated cast iron grates, but it can be a matter of choice.

This is a basic 3-burner gas grill with a 12,000 BTU side burner. The three burners produce 32,000 BTUs under 424 square inches. Weber's efficient design means this grill can heat up quickly and to high temperatures even if the power appears a little low. This grills other features are, well, stainless steel. Where the other grills in the spirit line have black enameled bodies, this one is coated in stainless steel.

I know that stainless steel is pretty even if it is a lower grade. The issue I have with this grill is the pricing. For $50USD less you can get the Spirit E-320 which gives you everything this grill has, without the stainless. If you want a Weber and can't afford the Genesis (which start around $150USD more than this model), then I suggest not buying this grill. Look instead at the Spirit E-320 or E-310 (which doesn't have a side burner).

    Weber Spirit E-320 Gas Grill

Built to be basic, this model of Weber's Spirit grills is large enough for most people, comes with a side burner, and has most all the extras one expects from Weber. The heat output is low, but the porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates hold enough heat to give good grill marks. In all honesty, there is nothing more to say about this grill other than it is a good, but basic grill.

Guide Review - Weber Spirit E-320 Gas Grill

First of all this is the same as the Weber Spirit E-310 but with a 12,000 BTU side burner added on. If there is no need for a side burner, then it would be best to save the money and get that grill instead of this one.

The Spirit E-320 is a basic grill with 424 square inches of primary grilling space and a 12,000 BTU side burner. The three burner design gives plenty of versatility and indirect grilling space and the side burner is a useful extra if used.

The 3 burners generate 32,000 BTUs of heat under 424 square inches of porcelain-coated cast iron cooking grates.

This is not a powerful grill and the preheat times are long. However, the grates hold a lot of heat and allow for good heat transfer. This grill will do a good job of grilling a steak or burgers. The temperature range is wide, so low-temperature cooking is very good. The 3-burner design gives enough space to indirectly cook a chicken or two of a large roast.

The construction is good. Weber abandoned higher quality stainless steel in favor of price control, so this doesn't have the durability of Weber's of the past, but it is still a well-made grill. The majority of the body is enameled steel, something Weber is very good at. This grill is the same price as the stainless clad Spirit S-310, but with the addition of the side burner. I would recommend this model over the S-310.

Weber Spirit vs Genesis: The Ultimate Comparison

So, you’re looking for a top quality gas grill and have a hard time deciding between the Weber Spirit and the Weber Genesis ranges. It’s not an easy choice, but by isolating a few key requirements you can make the correct decision.

In this article you will find brief highlights of both ranges, key differences and a comparison table to help you find the right model for you.

    Weber Spirit versus Genesis: Quality

Both these ranges offer outstanding build quality. However, the Spirit features a lower grade of stainless steel than the Genesis. They’re still high quality, well-constructed grills, but rest assured that the extra money you pay on the Genesis grills are not just for more space and heat. They’re a few steps up from the Spirit in construction quality.

Apart from the Genesis S-models (more info below) all these products feature stainless steel burners, porcelain-enamel cast iron grates and enclosed gas storage with gas gauges and thermometers.

    The Genesis and Spirit Models

We have a handy comparison table a little lower down that will help you compare exact features at a glance. For now, just a quick overview of the different models on offer.

    Genesis: E-310 (full review), E-330, S-310, S-330

Both ranges offer basic models and more featured models.

In the Spirit range, the basic model is the E-210 (2 burners, 450 sq. inch), which offers the bare essentials you need to get grilling, including a handy extra in the LP fuel gauge. The E-220 model adds a 12,000 BTU side burner to the E-210 setup.

Next, you step up to the Spirit E-310. This is a 3-burner 529 sq. inch model that offers slightly more cooking space than the E-210. Apart from that and the extra burner, they’re virtually identical. The E-320 upgrades the E-310 with a 12,000 BTU side burner.

The Genesis range starts with the E-310, a 637 square inch cooking surface powered by 3 burners and all the essential features you need, without added extras. For extras, you can upgrade to the Genesis E-330 (reviewed here), which adds both a side burner and a sear station to the E-310.

    The S-Models

Available in both the Spirit and Genesis ranges are the S-models: the Spirit S-210 and the Genesis S-310 and S-330. They are exactly the same as their E-model counterparts, apart from the following:

    – stainless steel cooking grates and flavorizer bars instead of porcelain-enamel coated cast iron (Genesis only)

    – stainless steel shroud instead of porcelain enamel shroud (Genesis and Spirit)

    So, Weber Spirit or Genesis?

Ok, we’ve looked at the basic differences between the models. We’ve established that the Genesis range offers better quality stainless steel construction, but you pay considerably extra for that.

So, with the Spirit still being a well-constructed unit, it comes down to your requirements in the end. How much cooking space you need, what extras you need and what your budget can handle.

Personally we feel a Genesis is worth it from a long term investment perspective. These grills are built to last, and a model like the Genesis E-330 will give you everything you’ll ever need from a gas grill in this price range. Spending a bit more from the start has its advantages in the long term.

However, the choice is yours. The one thing we can recommend is that you get a model with a side burner. You don’t want to save fifty bucks now by skipping it, only to realize a few months down the road that it would have been nice to have. Buy once and buy right.

To help you compare features, you’ll find a comparison table below.

    Comparison Table

To simplify things we left out the 210 and 310 Spirit models, for two reasons:

1 – the only difference is the side burner that you get with the 220/320 models

2 – the price differences are so small that you may as well get the 220/320 and be done with it

This table highlights and compares all the major features of the most popular models in the Weber Spirit vs Genesis range.

    Weber Spirit E-320 Gas Grill

    Weber-Stephen

Weber-Stephen is one of the oldest and most respected manufacturers of BBQ equipment and related accessories in the world. Weber grills and smokers cook beautifully and have great features that are clever, effective and easy to use. As popularity and demand for BBQ gear grows worldwide, Weber continues to earn their long standing reputation for quality, durability and outstanding customer service and support, (7 days a week from 7am to 9pm CST), in an increasingly competitive environment. Even in this crowded marketplace, many consumers are still willing to pay more for the Weber name and they are rarely disappointed. They make a variety of cookers and smokers. Their iconic black charcoal kettles are known throughout the world. Indeed Weber is expanding globally.

Weber-Stephen was family owned since it was founded in 1952 by George Stephen. At the end of 2010 the Stephen family sold a majority stake to Chicago investment group BDT Capital Partners. In 2012, Weber settled a class action suit out of court regarding their use of the phrase, "Made in USA". Weber previously qualified the "Made in USA" statement by specifying their products are assembled in the USA with some components that are sourced globally. Here is an excerpt from Weber's statement "Weber believes that because all Weber grills and the disputed accessories are designed and engineered in the USA, and all grills save for one line [Spirit]* are manufactured and assembled in the USA using component parts primarily made in the USA, it did nothing wrong and therefore has valid defenses to plaintiff's claims. The court has not held a trial or ruled in favor of either party on any disputed issues. Weber and the plaintiff have agreed to settle the matter to avoid the costs of continued litigation." As a result of this suit, Weber can no longer claim to be made in America.

Things change, but we believe Weber's commitment to quality and innovation has not.

The biggest barrier for many folks is price. Webers are not cheap, but when you consider that they last decades, the price is easy to justify. In fact, when you consider the fact that some cheap grills fall apart after three years or so, Webers might be considered a bargain.

Our main complaint: All Webers have the obligatory bi-metal dial thermometer in the hood that gives you a ballpark reading of what the temperature is high above the meat. Since we cook on the grates, though, it's always better to bring your own digital thermometer and place a probe there. It would be nice if they would go digital in the digital age and it appears with their acquisition of iGrill digital thermometers, this is begining to change.

*At the very end of 2016 Weber introduced their new line of Genesis II gas grills to replace the popular Genesis series. Genesis II is made in China. Genesis II LX is still made in Palatine, IL.

    Weber Gas Grills

Weber gas grills are simply the gold standard. Designed intelligently with attention to details and built to last, they look good, work beautifully, and almost never break down. If they do, Weber is known for great customer service and for carrying an inventory of parts on models from years gone by. Meathead owned a Genesis for 15-years and can testify from experience.

All their burners are quality stainless steel, have a long life expectancy, and they come with electronic ignitions. The body is heavy. The casters are sturdy and lock solid. Nothing wobbles on Webers. The grease drip pans are easy to access from the front, not the back as with many other grills. Except for the portable/compact Q line, all models hold the propane tank inside the enclosed cart, and can be adapted for natural gas. They have smaller vents in the hood than most gassers which means they retain more heat than grills with more BTUs.

All have inverted V shaped "flavorizer" bars that cover and protect the burners while vaporizing drips and turning them into flavor that gets back up onto the meat. Except for the Q line, all either come with a rotisserie or you can order one as a factory accessory.

Weber gas grills come in four basic flavors, Q, Spirit, Genesis II, and Summit, each with several configurations. Models starting with an "E" are built with Weber's sturdy porcelainized enamel coated steel, and those starting with an "S" are mostly stainless steel.

Addressing an increased interest in outdoor kitchens, in 2011 Weber introduced add on "Island Cabinetry" and "Social Centers", pictured above, to integrate with the Summit lines. These range from matching side tables with enclosed storage to cart mounted side burners, enclosed trash cans and large "Social Areas" that serve as a bar with double door storage underneath. There is also a faux stone island with matching countertops.

Much has been made of 430 and 304 stainless steel: the two most popular grades used by grill manufacturers. Many other inexpensive brands use very thin, low cost 430 stainless to get that shiny showroom floor look. Premium grill makers tout their use of higher quality, higher priced 304 stainless. At some point, Weber decided to switch from 304 to 430. Although 304 is superior, 430 can work just fine if it is a thick gauge like Weber uses, but it is not as durable and one has to expect the life of the grill will be shortened. Will this decision could come back to haunt the castle in Palatine? Only time will tell. Alas, it does not appear Weber's prices were reduced to reflect the cost savings realized with this change.

    Weber Spirit Gas Grills

Spirit is Weber's entry level and their least expensive line of gas grills. Made in China, they are the subject of criticism from Weber devotees who have always prized their high quality and American made status. In 2012, however, Weber settled a class action lawsuit that objected to Weber's use of the Made in America label on any of their grills. With the exception of Spirit, Weber maintains that all their products are assembled in America and most components are made in America with some being outsourced globally. As part of the settlement, Weber no longer uses the term "Made in America" for their products.

Regardless, their long standing reputation for quality and customer care remains intact and many people are still willing to pay more for the Weber name. Spirit was completely redesigned in 2013 to bring it closer in in appearance and performance to Weber's mid-line Genesis series.

Spirit comes in three basic flavors: E, S and SP. E series has black porcelain enameled housing, cast iron grates, flavorizer bars and a 430 grade stainless steel work surface. Single door painted metal carts with casters. S includes all E features except the hood and door are stainless steel. SP is the same as S but upgrades the grates to 7 mm stainless rods and adds a side-mounted condiment rack. All models have battery powered ignition.

    Gold Medal

Weber's entry level Spirit line was completely redesigned for 2013. Spirit E-320 has three stainless steel burners and a 12,000 BTU side burner. It is the largest Spirit model with 424 square inches primary cooking surface and a 105 square inch warming rack.

A big change for Spirit in 2013 was reconfiguration of the burner layout. Burners used to connect from left to right with control knobs on the right side shelf. The new Spirit burners connect from front to back with control knobs on the front panel. This not only frees up work space on the side shelf, but provides better performance when cooking indirect or 2-zone. Indeed Weber Genesis, Summit and most other manufacturer's gas grills follow this burner design. Also included is Weber's in cart LP tank fuel gauge that gives an approximate indication of fuel level by weight.

The E-320 has black porcelain enameled grates, flavorizer bars, housing and single door enclosed carts with a stainless steel work surface. The lightish hood is made of porcelain-enameled steel. The stainless work surface has cast aluminum end capes with built-in tool hooks. It rests on four casters (two locking) and has battery powered ignition.

Spirit was always a very basic, well made, serviceable grill line. The 2013 redesign offers significant upgrades and considerable value. Owners of previous Spirit grills may rub their eyes in disbelief as they behold these new cookers that barely resemble past models. Although Spirit is Weber's entry level price point, it is still more expensive than many other popular grill brands. However, most Spirit owners feel the quality, durability and performance are worth the price.

If your igniter button looks like the picture below then you have a pizeo ignition.

If your igniter button looks like the picture below then you need this Electronic Battery Igniter .

Weber Spirit Grill Parts: 500 and 700

The Weber Spirit 500 and 700 grills were made from 1995 to 1998. These are great grills and many of the basic parts (Flavorizer bars, burner tubes, grill grates, iginiter) are still readily available. You can get the Owner’s Manual for these grills here.

One of the key parts for this grill, a replacement hose and regulator, are no longer available. There is a video at the end of this post that shows how you can easily convert your Spirit 500 or 700 to accept the new style hose and regulator that is available.

With grills this old please make sure there is no significant frame damage from corrosion before you spend a lot of money on replacement parts.

    Weber Spirit 500 Parts

    Weber Spirit 500

There were three versions of the Weber Spirit 500 (500, 520, 530) that were functionally equivalent. The only differences between these three grills are cosmetic.

    Weber Spirit 700 Parts

The Weber Spirit 700 is a nice three burner grill but I never understood what market it was meant to serve as it competed directly with the three burner Genesis grills.

If you have one of these classic grills then here are the Weber Spirit grill parts you need to get it running like new.

Again, the original hose and regulator kit that came with the Spirit 500 and 700 grills is no longer manufactured. This video shows how to easily convert your Spirit 500 or 700 to accept that new style of hose and regulator.

Your webpage about Weber grills is awesome! I have the side-mounted control version of a Spirit E-120. I have struggled searching on eBay for aftermarket parts because of the different generations of each model. The only question you didn’t clear up: where can I get new burners for this model?

Glad you found the site useful!

I have not seen any burners for sale for this model. I suspect this is because Weber is giving them away 🙂

The burner tubes have a 10 year warranty. Weber started selling this line of Spirit grills in 2007 so the burner tubes on all of them are still under warranty.

If you need new burner tubes give Weber a call and have the serial number of your grill handy. They should be willing to send you some for free!

Some great info here about the older Weber grills. Thanks for taking the time to post it all

I do have a correction though. The Weber 700 three burner grill was made till at least 1999 as I bought mine new in March of 1999 as I own that year (Weber code EE), as stated on the owners manual as well as the grill itself.

Its been a fantastic grill over the last 17 years and most replacement parts are readily available. Over the years I’ve replaced the burners, flavorizer bars, and grates with Stainless and the grill preforms like new, this is a testament to the quality to the quality that Weber used to have.

Thank you for the correction , Jeffery! Trying to get the history exactly right on these grills has been tricky. I appreciate the input and knowledge!

Thank you, Thank you for having this site! The information is PRICELESS! 🙂 Outstanding job!

Can you tell me where I might find a wheel (not the caster) for a Spirit 500? I’ve been looking on the computer so long, my vision is blurry 🙂

Thanks for the kind words, Corrine! The Spirit 500 has an 8 inch wheel. You can find the right wheel on Amazon by searching for “Weber 63050”.
