Weber-Stephen Deutschland GmbH, based in Ingelheim, Germany, is one of the top names in the European grill market. Following a holistic business approach, the company offers a whole world of barbecue trends and ideas.
“Our business is not about selling grills and accessories,” explains Managing Director Frank Miedaner. “We provide solutions and ideas for an outdoor lifestyle. There is an increasing trend towards outdoor activities. The furniture industry also responds to this trend and keeps developing more and more outdoor products. We organize many promotional events in order to show people what is possible, to inspire them to create their own outdoor world. For example, we established a barbecue academy, our Weber GrillAcademy Original. Here, you learn from professionals everything you need to know to have a great barbecue experience.”

The Gourmet BBQ System, which is included in almost all Weber grills, is one of the latest innovations. A hole in the cooking grate allows you to insert a pizza stone, a wok or a Dutch oven. This way you are able to prepare everything you would traditionally prepare in your oven or on your stove.
Thanks to its uncompromising quality approach and the perfect combination of functionality and design, Weber has become a synonym for high-end barbecuing. The company is also recognized as a trendsetter in the market.
“We always have our ear on the market and get to know about new trends and demands early,” says Mr. Miedaner. “Currently, there is a strong trend towards gas grills. It is much quicker than charcoal grilling and requires less preparation. Smoking is also becoming very popular. Here, we offer several special recipes with hickory or whiskey flavours.”
Grilling at low temperatures is another new trend. For example, pulled pork which is roasted between eight and nine hours is becoming very popular.
In the USA, it already is a bestseller. In Europe, it is still quite new, but the number of fans keeps increasing. Due to the growing number of vegetarians and vegans, there is strong demand for recipes without meat, too. Grilling is not a men’s domain anymore, either. It is becoming increasingly popular among women.
The US-based parent company was founded in 1952 by George Stephen, who was also the inventor of the kettle grill. Before that, he had worked as an engineer in a buoy factory (Weber Brothers Metal Works). The young company prospered, and in the 1980s, Weber introduced the first gas grill. In Europe, Weber took its first steps with distributors.

Finally, the management decided to establish a subsidiary in Germany in order to look after the continent. Weber-Stephen Deutschland GmbH was established in 1999.
In the beginning, Weber focused on teaching “covered grilling”, brand building and distribution set up. “We discovered that the German grill market was still in its infancy,” says Mr. Miedaner. “Filling stations used to sell cheap grills.”
Today, the German company has around 125 people on the payroll and achieves annual turnover of three digit million Euro amount and rising.
The German subsidiary looks after six regions: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic + Slovakia and Poland which is EMEA Central.
In the coming years, Weber aims to enhance the entertainment and lifestyle aspect of its marketing in a strategy described as edutainment.
“Our GrillAcademy will play a central role,” explains the Managing Director. “Today, we have around 50,000 participants plus the guests at our live shows within our retail partners. Altogether, this adds up to around 80,000 guests. By 2016, we would like to have around 100,000 guests a year.”
Weber recently entered into a partnership with FLP. “Now we are able to offer a food assortment for the retail market, including fresh meat, sauces, spices and more. We call this assortment the Weber joy-of-grilling range for the food retail market. This is a great opportunity for us to get closer to consumers and enhance our brand awareness. It is our vision to make them understand the Weber brand as a synonym for outdoor culture.”

Grill Master - Michael P. Clive
Michael Clive started his career in London, Ontario after graduating from Culinary Management and Tourism & Hospitality from Fanshawe College. He has worked in the kitchens of some of Ontario’s finest restaurants and corporations. In addition to his countless appearances on local and national television shows and food events, he produced and hosted his own cooking shows “Sizzle with Michael P. Clive” and “Toronto Eats with MPC”.
As Weber Canada’s Grill Master, Michael is responsible for internal and external training and education initiatives. In this role, he also represents Weber as brand ambassador and media spokesperson, maintaining the integrity of the Weber brand experience at the first Weber Grill Academy in Canada, located in Vaughan, Ontario. It is there that he also teaches a variety of grilling classes open to the pubic and also available for corporate/team-building events and special occasions.
Chef Clive’s enthusiastic approach to food is only surpassed by his passion for grilling. His first experience using a Weber grill was with the portable Weber Q and there was no looking back. An avid griller, he now enjoys grilling year-round on a wide assortment of Weber gas and charcoal grills and smokers.
Michael is also known for picking up the bass guitar and throwing some extreme tailgating parties during football and basketball seasons.
Grill Specialist - Damien Chong
What started off as a hobby in the kitchen transformed into a passion for cooking and a fascination for the culinary world. Following his graduation from the Culinary Management program at George Brown College in Toronto, Chef Damien Chong went on to work in the kitchens of some of Toronto’s top, internationally acclaimed chefs.
It was in 2014 when Chef Damien Chong found a new lease on his professional trajectory when he joined the Weber Grill Academy in Vaughan, Ontario. It was in this unique indoor grilling school that he was able to learn about the fascinating world of grilling using gas and charcoal grills and smokers. Since then, Chef Chong has been a driving force in the Grill Academy, helping teach hundreds of students through a variety of classes how to take their grill skills to the next level.
When Damien isn’t busy in the Grill Academy his thirst for learning is often satisfied with global travels abroad to different corners of the world in search of new flavours and cooking techniques.

PALATINE, Ill., April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Weber-Stephen Products LLC, the world's leading manufacturer of outdoor gas and charcoal grills and grilling accessories, announces a new charcoal grill that combines the form and functions of the classic Weber kettle grill with the company's beloved Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker smoker to create a completely new grill option from Weber.
The new Summit® charcoal grill and Summit® charcoal grilling center (MSRP: $1,699 and $2,299 respectively) will be available at select specialty retailers beginning April 6, 2016 . Consumers can visit www.weber.com to find a dealer in their area.
"We are so excited to bring these new grills to our customers—providing true convection cooking that only Weber's trademarked round shape can provide," said Kim Lefko , Chief Marketing Officer, Weber-Stephen Products LLC. "Charcoal grill owners interested in smoking, and gas grill owners who long for the taste of charcoal now have the best of both worlds available to them."
Designed to provide ultimate control and hold steady temperatures for more than 10 hours of cooking, the Weber Summit charcoal grill will incorporate many unique features including multi-zone heat options, a hinged diffuser plate, a two-position fuel grate, an insulated lid and bowl for less charcoal consumption and better heat retention, and a slow cook/smoke bowl damper set-up that allows for three bottom vent positions.
In addition, the Weber Summit charcoal grills come with a Gourmet BBQ System cooking grate—a hinged cooking grate that features a removable center piece designed to fit a variety of Weber accessories, including a wok, griddle, and a poultry roaster.
The Weber Summit charcoal grill features 452 square-inches of cooking space, Snap-Jet gas ignition for easy lighting, a Rapidfire lid damper and built-in thermometer, a bottom wire rack for additional storage and the One-Touch cleaning system for easy ash removal. The Weber Summit charcoal grilling center will also include a stainless steel tabletop, wire basket and tool hook, along with a CharBin storage container.

Weber GrillWatch Survey™ Reveals Top Tailgating Foods, Trends, and Grilling Gear
PALATINE, Ill. , Sept. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- No matter which team you're rooting for, there is one thing Americans have in common when it comes to tailgating: What's on the grill. According to the just-released tailgating statistics from the 25 th annual Weber GrillWatch Survey, the pre-game fare that takes the top spot on the grill is once again the all-American hamburger.
Since Weber started keeping score, and most likely since the dawn of tailgating, hamburgers remain America's favorite tailgating fare at 71 percent, with hot dogs (45 percent); and brats (36 percent) coming in a distant second and third place.
"Burgers are not only a mainstay at tailgate parties—they are America's favorite food to grill across the board," says Kim Lefko , EVP of Marketing, AMERICAS, Weber-Stephen Products LLC. "After more than 60 years, and more than a dozen grilling cookbooks, Weber released its first cookbook dedicated to burgers—Weber's Big Book of Burgers (http://www.weber.com/cookbooks). With more than 200,000 copies sold in just five months, we anticipate steady demand throughout the busy tailgating season."

Other Newsworthy Stats from the 25 th Weber GrillWatch Survey:
- While portable grill models are the top choice (63 percent) when it comes to grilling away from home (for tailgating or any other occasion), nearly one-third of grill owners take along a full-size model (31 percent).
- Over one-half of all grill owners enjoy grilling away from home (55 percent), primarily when camping, but also at parks, the beach or at tailgate parties.
- One-half of grill owners who have attended a tailgate in the past 12 months did not actually go into the game (50 percent).
- The average amount of money spent on a tailgate party by grill owners holds steady at $122 for the second year in a row, with one-quarter of the tailgaters spending between $100 and $149 per party (25%).
- Vegetables are rising in popularity, with eight percent of tailgate grillers putting veggies in their top three foods, up from four percent last year. Steak is cited by 31 percent of males as a tailgate food staple, while only 18 percent of women feel the same way.
- Grill owners report their top must-have items for a tailgate party are food (78 percent) and a grill (76 percent). Chairs (74 percent) and a cooler (71 percent) also make the top of the list.
Weber commissioned KeyStat Marketing to field the 25th annual Weber GrillWatch Survey. Toluna provided the sample of 1,000 grill owners throughout the United States who completed the online survey. All respondents were 21 years of age or older and currently own a charcoal, gas or electric outdoor grill or smoker. The sample was divided between 50 percent males and 50 percent females and was balanced demographically to represent households across the U.S.
